In 1991 the Field Museum approached Enterprise Development to develop a plan for the next century. Lucasfilm was engaged as the lead creative group. Tom Ancona was invited by Lucasfilm to participate as concept designer for the development of a comprehensive media plan for the museum. Concepts for unique adventures were developed that took visitors on interactive journeys inspired by places around the world.
The heart of the media plan was a personalized audio guide—The Field Guide—that greeted and guided visitors on their journey through the museum. Characters were created for each visitor segment. Orion the Osprey, Jason the Janitor, Susie Salmon and Bobby Seal provided unique perspectives on the Field Museum’s collections.
