Located on a spectacular historic site within the Golden Gate National Park Recreation Area, Ancona + Associates collaborated on a museum master plan with EHDD Architects and designed two major exhibits. Set in a historic army barrack building at Fort Baker, A+A integrated the new exhibits while respecting the simple character of the interior and exterior structures.
Buildings & Bridges reflects the complexity of the city across the Bay. Children are invited to climb on a skyscraper, slide down a debris chute, operate cranes and crawl through underground tunnels. A cut-away house exposes the inner workings of a typical home, and a drafting studio provides a place for parents and children to sketch their own dream house.
